Terms of Service

Effective: 6 June 2026

1. Agreement

Penelope (searchpenelope.com) is operated by Randisoft. By using the site, creating an account, or calling our API, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Penelope.

2. What Penelope is (and is not)

Penelope is an informational registry. Device owners register devices and may report them stolen; anyone may search a device by IMEI or serial number.

  • Theft reports are made by registered owners. Penelope displays them as the owner's report and does not independently verify that a theft occurred.
  • A "not found" or clean result is not a guarantee. It means no report exists in our registry, nothing more.
  • Penelope is not affiliated with the Nigerian Communications Commission or any government body, and it does not block devices on any network. It complements, and does not replace, official channels and police reports.

3. Your responsibilities

  • Provide accurate account information and keep your credentials secure.
  • Register only devices you own or are expressly authorized to manage on behalf of an organization.
  • Theft report attestation: by flagging a device stolen, you affirm that the report is true and made in good faith. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of your reports, and you agree to indemnify Penelope against claims arising from a false or misleading report you make.
  • Do not use Penelope to harass, defraud, or harm anyone, scrape the registry, probe or overload the service, or violate any law.

4. Disputed reports

If you believe a report about a device is false, email info@searchpenelope.com with the device identifier and any evidence of ownership. We may annotate, suspend, or remove reports during review, and we may request documentation from both parties. We cooperate with law enforcement on lawful requests.

5. Subscriptions and payments

  • Registering devices and searching the registry are free. Paid plans ("Active Protection") add features such as search alerts and the display of your contact details on your stolen device's results.
  • Paid plans are billed annually through Paystack and run until their expiry date. By subscribing while a device of yours is flagged stolen, you consent to your name and phone number being displayed on that device's lookup results.
  • Cancelling stops the next renewal; paid features remain active until the period ends. Refunds within 14 days of payment if no premium feature has been used; otherwise at our discretion.

6. Ownership transfers

The transfer feature records a handover between a registered owner and a recipient. Both parties are responsible for the truthfulness of the transfer. Penelope records the transfer history but is not a party to, and does not guarantee, any sale.

7. API access

API keys are issued under the Reseller plan, are confidential, and may not be shared. We may throttle or revoke keys that abuse the service. API responses carry the same informational status as the website.

8. Termination

You may deactivate your account at any time from your profile; this unpublishes your devices. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, submit false reports, or abuse the service.

9. Disclaimers and liability

Penelope is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Randisoft is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for decisions made in reliance on registry results, or for the conduct of users. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

10. Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We may update these terms; material changes will be announced by email and the effective date updated. Continued use after changes means acceptance.
